yes you can but you will have to make everything based off of perfomrance so it doesent bog down your CPU the first thing you should start with if you want to make a 3D RPG is a model loader, one you get out off the way you can start making the game itself(the model loader is important because you will need that to load characters, maps, etc...)(Most people make a .obj loader because obj files are easy and compatible
BTW I make my own 3D models so if you need any 3d models ill be willing to make them for your rpg
and the server/client thing can become complicated with a 3d rpg
you can use some of these fucntions
NewServer NewConnection SendMessage SendByte

Start simple 2D. 3D you'll get nowhere if you're a beginner programmer.

You won't get anywhere with any MMO, try writing a decent single player game first see if that puts you off the idea. Alot of beginners have the same ideas as you and I'm going to say that every single one fails...

(OKay, "complete" is too strong a word, but the game is playable and I'm still adding features, so bear with me) and today I just wrote my first networked game, albeit a simple one. In answer to the question - yes it's possible, no, do not try right now. go with simpler stuff and work your way up. try making a simple 2D arcade game, then progress from there.

The only problem i see is with the networking engine "Massivly" On line multiplayer games, tend to take a lot of connects so, im thinking you could do more of a diablo 2 style of online game play (like 4 to 8 people) per world -Darkjester
