It may seem strange to many of you that I would come in and announce the new Basic4GL wiki. I was expecting a formal announcement from Tom, however, I think he's been busy. So, here goes : This is what's happening : I've been given the go-ahead from Tom to move the B4GL from wikispaces to wikidot for these reasons : * It's a better wiki-system. * Therefore it allows for better organization of content. * It has an integrated forum. (This is cooler than it sounds). * It has no ads. * I've offered my wiki experience and GDN's B4GL content. One important thing here, this is not my wiki. It's Tom's. I'm just helping out. I am also asking for a few volunteers to check over everything and help me organize the forum. Tom has not given the go ahead to use the integrated forum, but I would like it to be ready in the event it is used. Here the wiki is : basic4gl.wikidot.comI have more or less finished moving the language guide, so you can see how the organization is working out. Thanks, --hartnell

Just my first impression on the new wiki layout...
It takes too many clicks to actually pull something up. the current wiki page seems a little crowded on the top, but having to click about four times down through a series of "drop down" menus just to get to an actual document seems a little too much.

If you have any ideas let me know. I arranged it this way because it was easy to get lost on the large pages that comprised the manual and wiki. --hartnell

It's OK, I guess. Would it be possible for the expanding menus to stay open? The fact that they tend to close up again when you go to a different page makes for clunky browsing. OK, it's got a real, consolidated forum, but we've got one right here. Why use another one? To be more positive, it certainly looks nicer. Are you going to move all the stuff from the old wiki?

1. If you are in a page that has a parent that is linked in that menu, it stays open. It only closes if you are out of that "section".
2. It's an integrated forum. That means you can use wiki syntax in it in just the same way that you were using a wiki page. Tom has not said anything about the forum.
3. Yes, If I have to. Also remember that I'm moving quite a bit of B4GL content from GDN to this new wiki.

Thanks for the positive compliments.

The wiki seems nice enough, however moving the forum over means losing alot of valuable stuff (i.e. my class post count) and I'm not sure what features that forum is really going to offer over this one (apart from the wiki syntax thing, which I'm not going to comment on until I've seen what that really offers over just sticking a url in a post like you do now). Also you have to remember alot of people don't take well to change, but once everything is transfered over I'm sure we'll all be happy (and I've got my post count back). cheers Jon P.S I'm so impressed with my post count because every single post is complete rubbish, and I'm just amazed at how much rubbish I have been able to contribute to this community!
