Wrayn, if you are going to create a complete OS, consider some of the fundamentals. Environment: + Is it command-line driven like CLI or have a GUI similar to Windows ? + Can programs written in it be ported to a single EXE and still run in WinXP ? Convention: + Why would others use this environ other than commercial existing ones ? + What could you build in it that would be easier than other OS or programming languages ? Structure: + What can you write in it ? What can you not ? + What are its limitations and boundaries ? Harmony: + Can you import common files from windows like BMP, PNG, and TXT files ? + Does it create files requiring your OS to execute, thereby making it a proprietary function ? These are just a few of the things you'll need to ask yourself as you go to build your own OS. BEWARE ! This is perhaps one of the most ambitious product anyone can ever choose for themselves and may take considerable time just to get a basic working model. Good luck !

You can do this without hardly ever touching the code for the compiler itself, download it and take a look, removing/plugging in new functions isn't that much of a mammoth task.
