If you read the entire comic they say that they're using webkit. I can't wait to see this new browser though it looks like it's going to be really fast. ;D

There's a news story on the BBC Website about it here. Versions of the browser will also be available on Linux & Mac. Apparently a BETA version is being released on Tuesday!!! EditThe full comic can be downloaded from Google Books here.

i wonder how the plugins are gonna work are they gonna be only in c++ (like the adobe flash plugins etc)or are they gonna alow you to write it in other janguages (like flash or googles android)
i'm glad the they put the tabs at the top though, i always thought browsers shoud've had them their.
if it turns out good i might use it as my personal browser but i'l proberly stick with firefox for development)

Thanks Asmodeus, I found some more screenshots here too. The browser should be available to download within the next few hours. ;D EditDownload from here. The first thing that I've noticed is that it's extremely fast.

The first thing that I've noticed is that it's extremely fast. I'm going to download this baby! reasons why its fast: 1. it uses Webkit one of the fastest rendering engines (the other being gecko and Presto.) 2. all tabs are in their own process, so if you open loads the browser won't slow down updating tabs one by one. its all asynchronous. 3. And its JavaScript VM is v8 an VM that allows JavaScript to run directly on the cpu as machine code (a bit like basic4gl's VM does), resulting in JavaScript execution speeds 10x fasterthan other browsers more info here: ajaxian.com/archives/google-chrome-chromium-and-v8 (Firefox 3.1 is expeted to have something like this in 3.1 called JIT in its new VM called trace monkey) 4. Gabage collection is almost perfect leaving no fragments in the memory resulting in faster responce time. this is also a result of the multi process tabs. 5. Old pages are flushed out of memory instantly as soon as you leave them so the browser doesn't have to worry so much about fitting in new pages you navigated to.

i wonder if google will update the webkit chrome is on to the latest nightly as the latest nightly pass the acid 3 test (a test that test that a browser's layout engine can comply to the current standards 100%)
googes download manager BTW is a bit like the download bar extension for firefox.

Okay, well I've visited YouTube & all the Flash videos that I've tried have worked. But when I visit the Microsoft Express site which uses Silverlight that doesn't seem to work.

ok things i like;
the new tab homepage
ingonito mode
tab aranging affects
the stying for non styed rss feeds
firefox like favorite button
url greys out all except the domain name
mimiistic ui (very ie7 ike)
the status bar (fades out when its not showing anything put fades in when it is)
download bar at bottom!
abillity to pull tabs into own window
history, download and tab manager!
view source
the fact the bookmark bar can be chosen to only show up on the new tab homepage
the bookmark bar looks like it fits in with the rest of the ui
and the fact that firebug is parcialy intergrated (a tool really usefull for inspecting an webpage's elements).
things i don't like:
the fact it dosn't support more than 1 search engine at a time!
bookmarks are a pain to organise! not as easy as history is!
can't edit code live in chrome's firebug just like you can in firefox's firebug.
the fact the browsers name is in the new tab homepage (it wastes space) they coudv''e put it in the browsers titlebar where it says google.
you can't open normal windows in a incognito window.
favicons don't appear in url bar
tabs get squished when many are opened (opera has this issue too). why don't they have horizontal scroling like firefox or ie7.)
importing from other browsers except firefox is imposible unless you import from other browsers to firefox then into google chrome
good for a first try though hope they can iron these problems out though!!!!!!

For anyone who's having difficulty using Java in the browser, you need to be using Version 6 Update 10 which can be downloaded from here. There's also a help centre for the browser here.

I always configure firefox to allow my tabs to be squished very small (down to 30-ish pixels wide) before scrolling. It makes things much simpler for me because I can see how many tabs I have and I can jump to the end or beginning without having to scroll first. I haven't tried Chrome yet. I'm gonna go do that in a minute, right after I finish with my email. Looks interesting though. I was hoping the comic would have more humor Oh well. EDIT: Bah, they only have a beta for 'doze. That's a little disappointing. Oh well, at least I already know they're planning to make this thing for Linux too, so no big deal. Next time I'm using 'doze for something I'll have to check it out.
