From what I understand, one of their big selling points is their hardware support, which is made superior by only supporting Apple hardware (quality over quantity). Supporting all the stuff out there would introduce all the idiotic driver problems that Windows and Linux users have to put up with. But I could be mistaken, having never owned a Mac.
I don't have an opinion on the issue myself. Just pointing out why someone might want to disagree.

I think its because mac want to keep their prices up if the Mac OS worked on all x86 PC's then other companies could start creating mac copies which would surely force mac to drop there (stupidly inflated) prices to compete. [edit] I've heard rumour that there are ways to hack the Mac OS to work on any x86 PC aswell, not something I'd bother doing though, windows vista ftw! *runs*.

The main reason macs are expensive is because they all use laptop tecnology (apart from the cpu).
p.s dose anyone know what a ata drive is i saw it on apples site?
p.ss you know apple makes slotdrives , apple could make some money selling those!

'ATA' is probably referring to 'PATA', AKA IDE. 'PATA' was originally known as 'ATA' until the advent of 'SATA', when 'ATA' was renamed to 'PATA' to help distinguish it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT_AttachmentYou'd better ;D But yes, they can be hacked that way. How well it actually runs on the non-Mac hardware is another story (one I don't know).
