Ok firstly I don't even know if this is the best place for this post.
If I used VC++ 2010 express with directX VC++ 2010 express with openGL VC# 2008 express with XNA Game Studio 3.1 Basic4GL
Ultimately I want to create a FPS game. Even though it could take me ages that is ultimately my goal.
I'm wanting to know this because I want to know what stuff to learn. I will also be using Tokamak Physics SDK and nivida's shader language CG. (I will learn after I learn one of the above combo's). Also I will be using blender for the models. (So I will also learn how to make a obj viewer eventually).
If anyone can help here I would be happy.

from my point of view first learn shaders and physics with Basic4GL if you will spent more time in learning i'm sure you can create cool games with Basic4GL.
many peoples use more than one programing languages only for fun (i'm too) but the results are often short demos not an complex game with many levels cool gfx sound and a funy story.
Basic4GL is a litle bit slow but with Plugins it's ok (trust me)
after i created an 3D editor with Physics i will create a good game with Basic4GL too.

The answer really is whatever you like, people who ask what language they should use shouldn't be using any of them . I'm with djlinux though, if you can't do it with b4gl you won't be able to do it with any other language. Basic4gl is designed for graphics programming specifically, languages like C++ and C# are more generic and if you want to do something well in those languages you'd have to spend time learning the language itself before moving on to graphics programming. The way I see C++ (and C# to a lesser extent). It's easy to think you know the language well but they (C++ especially) are full of little complexities. If you jumped into trying to make a big FPS game with limited experience in these languages, you'd likely fail.
