I have little programming knowledge and basic4gl looked like a good place to learn more before advancing to more advanced languages. I downloaded it and managed to run 4 demo programs before it stopped working, cubes and pyramids, nehe17, walking demo and my own simple 'print' program. Now everytime I try to run a program it comes up with a message saying the hardware isn't compabatible and asks to switch to software mode (no idea what this means). Clicking on yes or no gives me a black screen for a few seconds then it returns back to the desktop, although the program is still running (the run button says "stop"). I am running Windows Xp, how do I fix this?

check and see if a process is still running for the program, and secondly try reinstalling basic4gl this has been encountered a few times

Whats your graphics driver/card like? I know from personal experience that this is a very persistent problem using Intel integrated chips - even Intel HD 2000/3000 graphics that come with their newest processors. _IF_ you have intel graphics, try installing the newest drivers. Has worked 5 out of 5 times for me. That usually fixes the "No hardware accelerated OpenGL drivers detected" which might be the same as your error.

DarkjesterI didn't find any basic4gl processes in the task manager. Redownloading and reinstalling allowed the programs to work a few time but then the same thing happened and programs don't work anymore. shadow008The graphics driver is up to date and I have a different errore message that reads: "Hardware 3D acceleration is not available for this display mode. Proceed in software mode?" [Yes] [No] Also my graphics driver is: Ati Radeon x1650 pro 512mb

Well, I can say without a doubt, that your graphics card is NOT the issue... Assuming the drivers on a 5 year old card are mature enough to have gotten past any OpenGL issues, those aren't the problem.
That card I think supports OpenGL 2.0, I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure it's fine for anything B4GL has to throw at it... You using Windows 7?

I would offer the cliche "Did you try running it as administrator?" line, but I don't think that would solve your problem. Really, I don't know what could be causing this at this point. BUT, if your drivers ARE infact outdated (or just messed up), then uninstalling/reinstalling could help out in this case.

shadow008I am the adminstrator anyway. I don't know how to uninstall/reinstall drivers but I'll try booting up a really old laptop I have and downloading basic4gl on that.
