This is something I made myself (don't know if anyone else done it but its fun). 1) Ok, so first take a screen shot of your desktop. Here an example of what I done ... 2) switch this image for your desktop background 3) right click on the desktop press on "view" and untick "Show desktop icons" 4) Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and start task manager (or whatever way you liek to bring it up), when on there click on "Processes" and right click "explorer.exe" and press "End process" cut the task manger off and there you have it, a fake crash! if you wanna return your start menu and that, get up task manger with "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" and go to "Applications" click on "New task..." type "Explorer.EXE" and click ok, and it should return. Funnt when I done it to my brother he turned the computer off thinking it crashed. ;D - Nicky

For added fun, open the screenshot in paint and flip it upside down.
Another fun thing is to set up a remote access program and log into their computer without warning them. Or swap the names and icons on all their shortcuts. Or pop off their keys and rearrange the keyboard (even better - grab a couple other keyboards of the same model and color so you can have more than one of each letter. Write them a message in the keyboard with the keys.)
If they have a nasty tangle of cords, find an extra cable that looks like one they're using. Unplug one end of their cable and plug in an end of the spare. Tuck the free ends snugly into the tangle.
Start typing very strange things into their search toolbar so that whenever they type anything in it will pull up the strange things you typed.
Plug the speakers into something completely different that you're sure will still be playing when they come back to the computer, then turn off the speakers.
Go into the registry and rename a bunch of stuff.
I don't know about newer Windows, but if I remember correctly I was able to use a hex-editor in Win98 to change the 'Start' bar to the 'Stuff' bar. There are tons of possibilities for humorous new names...

Nah. Though I've never actually done any of them except the wallpaper stuff, and changing my own start bar. I did explain how to do the keyboard thing for my brother though, and I believe he did it to my sister (I was out of state at the time). And I'm considering setting up a remote access deal on my sister's computer so I can help her out from afar, and come April could use that to do all sorts of fun stuff (invert the video, make it start playing music (or creepy audio sounds), remap the keyboard, etc. I'd probably only do one or two of them of course... and I'd do it a good deal prior to that special day and have it set up time-bomb style, just in case she anticipates that I might do something like this and disconnects in an attempt to block me out...)
I also plan to recycle one of those birthday cards that plays music when opened next time I visit, around Christmas. I'm gonna rig it so the toilet will play a song when the seat is lifted (don't remember which song, but IIRC it was something which was somehow appropriate). I was going to do this this summer but never got around to it.
Going too far would be to get pictures of random naked people that like animals too much, use Gimp to stick their faces on them (the naked people, not the animals), then print them on photo-stock and stick 'em in every mailbox on their street. That would just be mean. But things like hooking their speakers up to an opera or making the toilet sing, those are good healthily funny things.
