I saw something like this back on my Amiga. I forget the exact "rules", but basically it's a pattern simulation. How does it work? It checks each location on the screen, and if in it's four adjacent squares there are either 1 or 3 "1"'s, it puts a 1 there. If there are 2 or 4 "1"'s, it blanks it out. By doing this, you can get some really interesting patterns going on. The code is here. I couldn't paste it in here as it removed all of the extra spaces. games.andrewhoyer.com/patterns.gbYou'll see at the top I have a bunch of print statements to set the initial screen. At the bottom I have a few other examples. Once the patterns start hitting the edge of the screen, things start to mess up, but that can't be helped, or maybe it can if you set it up to use a 1-1 ratio text size. But that's besides the point here. Switch around the pattern examples I created and see how it works. Watch for repeating patterns, as they are really neat. Then, make up some of your own and see how they turn out. Paste the initial starting point and we can try it out! Trooper

Wow, thanks for that. I had no idea what it was called. That is indeed what I had seen about ten years ago. What I've made is slightly different but I didn't remember all the rules correctly. Maybe when I have a few minutes I'll update it. Thanks again! Trooper
