when i run any program all it does it the screen goes black for a second, then only part of the screen is black and stays like this until i hit escape, and after i hit escape i now ahave a continuous high pitch noise coming from the pc.

Does this happen with anything you try to run, or just code you are working on? If the latter is the case you could try posting your code to see if anyone can find the issue or if it works on a different system. You can also compare what you are doing with what someone else did and make sure that you are following working methodology. Best of luck to you.

it was with any program.... but i found out it was only when i ran in fullscreen mode, windowed works quite well, basic4gl looks pretty damn cool, can't wait to get some experience, i'm pretty good at qbasic (used to be better, i quit proggin for about 7-8months still a lil rusty.

ya it's coming back pretty quickly actually, is there anyway to just put a pixel on the screen, like a pset or sumthing?

I know of gl_points.Thats if you're willing to use thew opengl capabilities.here's an example.Tweek it a little,i'm sure you'll understand.
glBegin (GL_POINTS) glVertex3f ( 5, 10, 0) glVertex3f ( -5, 10, 0) glVertex3f ( -5, 10,-50) glVertex3f ( 5, 10,-50) glEnd () SwapBuffers ()

One more thought on this subject, try updating your video drivers. Tom also has a suggestion on deleting a registry setting. I'm not sure which sub this was under.
