Hi all, I just discovered today that I need to manually approve all new accounts on this message board. It's not difficult to do but it's something I'm bound to forget. So if you do create a new user account, drop me an email at tmulgrew@slingshot.co.nz so that I know to log in and "approve" it. You can also post under a guest login if you don't want to wait that long -Tom

You can actually set the config. so that you dont need to approve any accounts, but i guess this way is better.

Well, many of spammers were banned, but that hasn`t slowed down spamming a bit.
It`s, i think, automated proboards spamming that posts a message on who knows how much boards at the same time (i mean forums)

Moderators also have the abillity to ban IP adresses, that wasnt the problem, it was in that there were to MANY spammers.

Indeed, IP banning was pointless as myself and dodic had discussed, cleaning it up as quickly as possible was the only option.

In truth, spammers can spoof IPs, there's quite a few programs out there for that, and can mask their locations so it's virtually impossible to hunt them down. Pro spammers use a new name with bogus return address for every spamming post. They are now using a type of AI reply system that replies to bulletin posts with buzzwords (look for the broken English) and appear to be human instead of a bot. They're quite vindictive. Confirmation via Tom makes good sense if spam is really getting bad in here.
I've kept a few AI spambot posts sent my way in Email. They're really disturbing to read.
