I'd like to see functions happen in b4gl, and macro's.... But beyond that, I'm quite happy with the current design.
The one biggest request I can think of is, if you trash b4gl to start something else, please please please release the src for the last version on it, that way someone could theoretically pick up where you leave off...

The linux version will be maintained ;D...well sort of. In all honesty xteraco, please don't see this as me trying to take a jab at you but I think your seeing this as a completely different project, from what Tom has said and from messing with the code for use in the linux version its still based off the compiler and vm that basic4gl uses, it is really as madcow said just basic4gl evolving. All languages get minor syntax changes as they grow and improve. I can understand what your saying though, even the slightest of syntax changes could mess up a project that is 2000 lines long (when do we get to see it btw?).
cheers

In my free time, I've been working like mad on a graphics demo engine. I'll say, either its done w/in the next 2 or 3 weeks or I'm gonna put it on the back burner... I think it'll get done though, its come pretty far.
Not sure, but it might be in pretty good shape for doing up a game or something to... That might be a future project.
The only thing that could kill this project, as I see it, is..... When I go to work, after coding in b4gl all weekend, I'm prone to forgetting ";" and typing then's in my if stuff. Rather annoying. It'll prolly get better as I go...

This is a mistake IMO. Basic4GL fills a unique place in programming languages, both in it's simplicity and it's focus on OpenGL. There are plenty of other projects, Irrlicht, Horde3D, JME, etc... that have bindings to other, simple languages. The downside is that these other languages take more time to learn and are not as intuitive as a BASIC-like language.
I don't think Basic4GL has come even close to exploring all the possibilities that OpenGL has to offer... and changing the development course will deprive new, inexperienced coders the opportunity to discover OGL in an easy to learn environment.
Just my 2 cents. Cheers.

I agree completely, however I think the openGL part of basic4gl is going to be just moved to an (optional) .dll, so technically I suppose the gl part could stay .

It's definatly a great thing you are doing with this. It will open up many, many more futures and make the language even more endless.
