Sorry, yeh I didn't mean one person to rule them all. I haven't used sourceforge before but I assumed there'd be 1 or more project leaders assigned to a project? Don't you have to have someone approve changes etc? sourceforge is simple, it works with svn, there are a few svn clients like turtoise svn to help interface with svn. svn just downloads the source code and organizes it for you. you can also easily commit source changes to the svn server, but im not sure how the allowing changes thing works. Well i think it would be best if everyone kind of threw in some work. If everyone made a few small changes it would help. Good luck

I know what sourceforge is, I've just never used it. You can't just have anyone come modify the code and check it back in, there must be some process involved to become a contributor to a project or else it would be crazy times...

I made a project on there once, you can add members or delete members from the project. You can also set the rank of each user and there job, like an Admin / Programmer, etc....

Well that's what I was poking at! Someone has to be the owner of the project, it can't be tom, he's not active enough, we'd all be waiting for months to get anything done ;D.

Well, the way I see it, you have been here the longest, and pretty much the only active mod on this site (up until the forum got really bad) and so far I believe that if you keep up your current amount of activity that you would be a great leader

I am an active mod and supermonkey isn't; supermonkey is an active mod PLUS. Other than that, i agree that supermonkey would be a good candidate for admin.

So far Supermonkey is one. We need at least one more. Then we will vote between the two.

i think voting is bull honkey, really tom wants it to be opensource for all the community to fix and update as necessary not everyone jump on someones bandwagon your asking for trouble if you just elect one person because they could get bored or move onto something better, i understand the need to elect some admins for the sourceforge page but seriously the decision is still ultimately up to tom he has not released his licensing as of yet so therefore we cannot do anything as of yet anyway, and i am not trying to be counter productive nor a dick i just feel it is necessary for all the cards to be layed down before we start making out a big plan -darkjester
edit: we should also be sure that if you were to elect people to take care of the site that they actually want to do it

Although this is all hypothetical, getting an answer from Tom isn't always speedy so getting something in place before is just planning ahead. If it goes up on sourceforge and if we need admin(s) I'll happily be one. However I don't think we need a "project lead" as such, that kind of misses the point of open source.
That's exactly what I said in my first post, things need to be taken one step at a time and done methodically or else we'll end up with 5 different sourceforge pages and 10 websites.

It's human nature for humans to easily forget what or why something (i.e. war, technolgies, games, and programs) originally was.
Remember originally Tom started Basic4GL as like an experiment to test his own ability and general intrest in something that was like an free, and eventually open, DarkBASIC. Instead time exploded Basic4GL and at it's peak Basic4GL transitioned from novel experiment to side project to project. But it still doesn't change the fact originally it was just an experiment, and Tom would look at it the same way.
But the popularity of this single-executable experiment I think definity broke popularity records for other experiments. And in the end it we got to talk to some great programmers who are good people aswell like Empirion Martyr. (Hell smc44 seems to even be improving, both in attitude and programming knowledge.)
One thing I will always take away from this experiment is that the Basic4GL forum was the first forum I joined and the first team I ever participated in (Team3Soft) originated from PMs on this forum.
That aside, Basic4GL itself is atleast definitly a start to learning OpenGL programming, but perhaps its greatest limitation will continue to be the fact it compiles code into Bytecode executables and not natives, but if the project continued to live on maybe not in the hands of Tom but of those of a community-based counsel that limitation like others would one day be eliminated.

Your posts, although always well written and pleasant to read rarely actually address the topic at hand, which is why I look forward to reading them so much ;D.

Hey supermonkey just got on the forums now, x-months later and saw this, one message: LOL
Anyway, I did address the topic, its plain and simple, Basic4GL is an experiment, Tom knows that, I know that, u know that, but what 'that' implys is that, it will probably be dropped and picked up again a few times, and ether completely die or come alive once more.
Nether the less, for learning OpenGL programming, theres definitely a place for Basic4GL, perhaps if suggested as the learning tool it is to the OpenGL dev team, they may, if we are very very very very... very lucky consider maintaining or atleast-est hosting it's source and binaries.

I'm sure i'm not the only contributer on my sourceforge page. I think i added someone else (i think it may of been mathew). so i can add anyone else if they want but admin status is only granted to those who have it on the forums.
