Hi Matt:
* Sorry I haven't written in a-while. I've actually been working on several novels. Yeah life does that to you. In any case, I should've mentioned that most of my tools for B4GL were written in GFABasic which is a Windows 3.1 programming language, and as such GFA does NOT run at all in Win7.
Yep, I'm in the process of getting my Win7 computer back to WinXP so I can program in GFA again.
Hope what I wrote then is still useful today ! David

Hi dw it's nice to see you back. What kind of novels have you been working on, Sci-Fi, Horror or something else? Have you tried using this version of GFA Basic to compile your programs?

Hi: * You can find my novel work and writings here: dw817.websitetoolbox.comI looked into GFA32 earlier and, unfortunately, it is so very different from GFA16. It is a pain to program in, and I would prefer to program in B4GL instead. As for GFABasic-16, it does not run in Win7 or Windows Vista. While I was programming in Blitzmax earlier, I am called back to work in B4GL. I am programming solely in B4GL now and will rewrite this Font Tool to run directly in it. I - have a bit of free time on my hands this week and I can see this utility is still in need for programmers. I hope it will be well received then and it should run in all computer platforms. I'm - sorry GFA16 is so incompatible with modern computers. I dearly loved the language, everything about it, but it just isn't supported anymore ...

LMAO, well here it is. Long time no speak, Matthew ! Welp, I have some good news and bad news. The bad news is, I'm no longer in B4GL, not until someone can find a way to merge all those .DLLs with the .EXE. The good news is, I am working on Scenario 3 again, and making much further progress. [Image] xf7.xanga.com/fa5f8b57d2233284584161/w227074714.pngBut the language is Blitz-Max I have chosen - for now. It definitely doesn't compile as fast and I know and it has some other problems - yet it does seem to cover what I need. I will spend all day today looking at B4GL again since it's been at least 3-years since I saw it. There were a few interesting things in B4GL I did like and I'm hoping to get back into it, just wish the audio .DLL problem were solved - and I am seeking (once again) to play MIDI files, necessary for any good RPGMaker.

Hi dw, there is a very useful Font Converter over here on the thinBasic forum. I thought there might have been a plugin for B4GL which allowed MIDI files to be played but I can't seem to find one. Perhaps one could be developed?

Quick update, apparently the ActiveX Decoder Plugin can deal with MIDI files so perhaps that will be of some use?

NICE ! I am definitely looking at the ability to play MIDI with this now. Yes it works ! (Huzzah !) No, it doesn't work on it's own. It requires "Freesound.dll" in addition to it's own "decoderplugin.dll" but it does work ! Nice to hear the RPG MIDI music again, much smaller than the .OGG samples I was gonna be forced to work with. Now - I suppose I should write a program in BlitzMAX that can compile a single EXE from the B4GL EXE and DLLs ... The problem is, while I can definitely do this, that single EXE still must extract out the EXE and DLLS to -some- directory to run there. I could hide the directory but that would be messy indeed. Likely I'll do what I did in S2. EXE engine, single DAT world file, and all the .DLLs you need. Not as nice as a single EXE ready-2-play world file, but still better than what RPGVX is doing today. Gimme pixel-reading and writing now and I am so HERE. Or maybe I'm just looking for a language that reads & writes individual pixels as fast as possible with ability to play .MIDs and .WAVs ? I'm not sure ... I think it won't be as powerful a language as B4GL if I did that. I know when I programed in Turbo Pascal I wrote my own graphic library where everything was done one pixel at a time and with the ability to update the whole screen every-single pixel on it at 30fps, it was neat what could be done then. As for my stories and writing, it's on Xanga w Friend's Lock HERE www.xanga.com/d817. It's on Friend's Lock cause of spammers and one persistent troll who earned a police record with his harassment. Yah people are nuts. Anyways, I've completed two novels, both science fiction, one non-fiction, half of another, and many short-stories. PM me with an alias you'd like to use in there and I'll let you straight in when I see you.
